History

The story of Oslobukta is the history of Oslo. It’s the cities youngest neighborhood with the longest history. The name Oslobukta is inspired by the old name of this area “Opsloe Bugten”, which means Oslo Bay.
During the medieval ages, Opsloe Bugten used to be the centre of Oslo – a major trade and transport hub strategically placed with direct access to the waterfront. When Oslo was founded by Harald Hardråde, around year 1050, he established his royal estate at this spot and hence marked the beginning of the development of Oslo.
With Oslobukta as a new waterfront destination we are bringing the city centre back to its original location. We welcome everyone to an inspiring neighborhood in Oslo – with diversity, people and activities at heart.
